Microsoft Dynamics GP – Here we go again…more payroll tax changes! FUTA rate decreases!

Effective July 1, 2011 the FUTA rate will decrease from 6.2% to 6.0%.  This tax is an employer expense and does not effect an employee’s pay check. So what do you need to do?

There will be no code change from Microsoft because this unemployment rate is easily changed in Microsoft Dynamics GP. Go to Tools | Setup | Payroll | Unemployment Tax. This is the same window where you set your State Unemployment rate. The new rate is entered under the Code of FED.

Most employers will enter the NET FUTA rate of .6% (net of the 5.4% credit for reporting and paying state unemployment on time). If your current rate reads .8% then change it to .6%. If you are reporting gross, your current rate will read 6.2%. Change it to 6.0%

Inconvenient? Yes. End of the world? No. The change will be effective from that point going forward and your payroll reports will be reflective of the change.  If you have questions contact a Microsoft Dynamics GP partner or email us at support@summitgroupsoftware.com.

Wonder what is going to change next!!!

Until next time…

Cool features with the Support Debugging Tool

The Support Debugging Tool is a free product that can be downloaded and used with Microsoft Dynamics GP. There are some really neat features and one I find I use all the time, and wanted to share with you.

For those of you who use GP Table/Window/Field Description to find information on tables and fields, this tool will make things a lot easier.

Do you have a GP window with field information that you want in a report but don’t know the table and field names? If you want to create a report need the technical information, this is the tool for you!

Example – I installed the .cnk file. And with two clicks I now have everything I need to know about a window.

I need to know which tables the Customer Payment Summary Inquiry window uses. I opened the Resource Information window (Microsoft Dynamics GP>Options>Resource Information), typed in the Display name and search. When I click on Associated Tables I see all tables used on this form with all 3 names for the tables.

If this is something you would be interested in, please contact a Microsoft Dynamics GP partner or email us at support@summitgroupsoftware.com for a link to the files. It is worth the 5 minutes to install this product to use in your environment. It will make your life much easier when looking up GP resources. Oh, and it works for other products as well, not just GP but the other products that work with GP.

Credit Card Information not populating in Cash Receipts Window

One of our great customers reported that when they were doing a cash receipt in Microsoft Dynamics GP, the customer credit card information was not pulling into the window when the credit card option was selected. The functionality is working just fine when recording this type of receipt in the Sales Transaction Entry window.

After much troubleshooting we discovered that that this happens when Multicurrency is not registered.

Credit Card information was working prior to installing a series of service packs but stopped working after. This issue has been reported to Microsoft.

For now, credit card information will have to be entered into this window manually when doing a cash receipt.

This was tested on Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact a Microsoft Dynamics partner or email us at support@summitgroupsoftware.com

Unable to Configure CRM 4.0 Outlook Client After Installing CRM 2011 Outlook Client

Yesterday, one of my users replaced their Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Outlook client with the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Outlook client for a customer demo and when he tried to revert back to the CRM 4.0 Outlook client, was unable to successfully run the Configuration Wizard. Here was the error that he received:

Error| Configuration exception.System.Exception: Action Microsoft.Crm.Config.Client.InstallPstAction failed. —> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8004010F): LaunchOutlookInstallerProcess failed.
at System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ThrowExceptionForHRInternal(Int32 errorCode, IntPtr errorInfo)
at Microsoft.Crm.Config.Client.InstallPstAction.Do(IDictionary parameters)
at Microsoft.Crm.Setup.Common.Action.ExecuteAction(Action action, IDictionary parameters, Boolean undo)

In order to resolve the issue, there is a CRM 2011 file that does not get uninstalled so it must be manually deleted.

Here are the steps that Microsoft recommends, which worked perfectly for us:

To resolve this issue:

1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics CRM\Client\ConfigWizard directory or C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics CRM\Client\ConfigWizard directory.

2. Delete the CRMForOutlookInstaller.exe file.

3. Do one of the following options:

Replace the CRMForOutlookInstaller.exe from the 4.0 client install bits.
Run a repair on the Dynamics CRM 4.0 Client for Microsoft Office Outlook installation.
Uninstall and reinstall the CRM 4.0 Client.

4. Run the Configuration Wizard.

Set Default Microsoft Outlook Profile

Most BPOS customers have a problem noticed after installing the Microsoft Online Services Sign In tool that Outlook starts prompting users to select a profile when opening, even when only one profile exists.

To automatically default a profile, follow these steps:

1. Open the Control Panel
2. Select Mail

3. Click Show Profiles…

4. Choose Always use this profile and select the desired profile

5. Click OK

Now Outlook will no longer prompt for a profile when starting!

If you have more questions on BPOS or this issue, contact a Microsoft partner.

Futa Rate Change and June Hot Fix / Round 6 US Payroll Tax update has released for 10.0 and GP 2010

There is some very important information included in this email, as it relates to Microsoft Dynamics Payroll.

If you have any questions about this email,  please don’t hesitate to contact us as support@summitgroupsoftware.com.  Have a fun and safe 4th of July!

FUTA CHANGES

Did you know that the FUTA rate changes effective July 1, 2011 (that’s TODAY!)? The gross FUTA rate is now 6.0% (down from 6.2%).

Please update your FED unemployment tax rate in Microsoft Dynamics GP. This is not a code change or a tax table change, it is a change that needs to be manually made by you in Microsoft Dynamics GP. From within GP go to Tools | Setup | Payroll | Unemployment. Select the FED code and change your rate. If your current rate reads 6.2% change it to 6.0%. If you are reporting the net rate of .8% then change that to .6%.  DO NOT CHANGE YOUR FUTA RATE UNTIL YOU HAVE POSTED YOUR FUTA LIABILITIES FOR JANUARY 2011 THROUGH JUNE 2011.  IF YOU HAVE POSTED THOSE LIABILITIES THEN YOU CAN CHANGE THE RATE.

TAX TABLE UPDATE – GP10 and GP2010 Only

In addition, there have been some tax table changes released.  Please continue to read below:

The Microsoft Dynamics Round 6 US payroll tax update has been released. The tax table update affects for North Dakota and Connecticut.  (If you have employees paid in the state of Connecticut, you need to install the tax update and the code update…major changes in their tax structure…read the instructions if you are in Connecticut carefully, please.  Go to the appendix, there is a very detailed explanation of the tax change for Connecticut and how to calculate it.  This would be effective  8/1,  and need to be done on each workstation where GP is installed.)

To install the tax table update, navigate to Microsoft Dynamics GP | Maintenance | Payroll Tax Updates | .  After the tax table is updated, you can verify the tax date from the following location:  Tools | Setup | System | Payroll Tax Date will be 7/15/2011.  This only has to be done on one computer.

CODE UPDATE – Install service pack (if needed) GP10 and GP2010 Only

Changes around this update for payroll/human resource

Payroll Class ID Roll downs – not working after applying round 4 tax update

2010 Multi build causes all employees to get checks and DD information is lost in certain cases.

Deductions missing from calculation based of Tax settings after you apply the round 4 tax update

Other module fixes include: Field Service, Inventory, Manufacturing, Project Accounting, Purchasing

Once you install the update code, your versions will be GP 10   KB2552042 June hot fix 10.0.1757     GP 2010 KB2552044 June hot fix    11.0.1799.  This code is all inclusive of prior patches/ service packs/tax updates.

If you  choose to install the code update it will need to be done on the server and each computer where Microsoft Dynamics GP is installed.  Currently, we do not have the full list of changes for this code update.  If you are experiencing one of the issues below and you want to install the code part of the update, please let us know.  We can assist if needed.

Links to install:

We  will send out a follow up message once we know what else is included in the code update.

Please let us know if you have any questions or need any assistance.  As always, please us at support@summitgroupsoftware.com

Thank you.

Extend the Functionality of Dynamics GP SmartList with Advanced SmartList

I think most people would agree that companies that made the investment in an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) solution, like Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains), prior to the economic downturn can and should be relying on leveraging more of their system’s functionality to increase their efficiencies. Faced with the challenge of potentially having to do more with less, clients have been asking what they can do to avoid having to work more. A solution we’ve seen success with is one that enables users to work smarter instead of harder. What is it you ask? Well it’s a cost effective, third party add-on product called Advanced SmartList (ASL).

Advanced SmartList is a window grid that sits on top of SmartList, a GP tool that clients rely on and use every day. The product has been on the market for 6 years and is being used in over 350 companies with 1000’s of users across industries and around the world. The product provides users an enhanced analytical perspective of their SmarList data. Users can easily sort on multiple fields, sum columns of numbers, group with visual detail results, generate multiple snapshots of simultaneous views for quick side-by-side comparison and export results to Excel 5 times faster than SmartList export. With this add-on solution GP users don’t have to learn how to use a new product to be able to make faster, better decisions they’re really just learning how to use an existing product better and more effective!

Management Reporter – An error occurred while retrieving balances from the source system provider.

When using Management Reporter (MR) with Microsoft Dynamics GP2010, you may receive an error when trying to run reports. An error occurred while retrieving balances from the source system provider.

If you receive this error check the version of MR you are running Help|About MR. If the version is 2.0.1664.19, then check one more thing – the main segment of your account number for that company. In Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010, open the Account Format Setup window. Tools | Setup | Company | Account Format. Look at the Main Segment ID. If the main segment of your account for that company is the last segment, you will need to install a hot fix.

The hotfix can be found on CustomerSource and will need to be installed on each computer were MR is installed. https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/downloads/servicepacks/mroverview.htm?printpage=false

If you need any assistance or have any questions, be sure and contact your Microsoft Dynamics GP Partner, or just email our support team at support@summitgroupsoftware.com
